Part of my latest collection: “Adventures of The Little Yellow Jug”

This series began with a simple still life painting of a little yellow jug I'd just brought home from an antique shop. After discovering it was made by Diana Pottery in the 1950s, I couldn't help wondering where it had been and what life it had lived all these years.

Was it the favourite milk jug on the breaky table back in the 50’s? Did it hold freshly picked flowers from grannies garden before being relegated to a young teenager in the 90’s to help keep their stationary?

I’ll never know, so I made it all up.

Each painting imagines another chapter in the life of this little yellow jug, celebrating the everyday moments, homes and memories it might have been part of over the past seventy years.

The Art Studio is part real, part imagined. Yes I use those paints and I have a striped container for my pens (although mines blue, not pink) and I also use a glass jar for my brushes and a metal container filled with mineral spirits. The rest is imagined. I don’t want to dirty the yellow jug with my brushes, not yet anyway. The pictures on the wall are nods to some of my older paintings and while I do have that easel, I don't often paint at a desk. Also, I am a mess! And this painting of a studio is super neat and clean.

33cm x 33cm x 5.5cm - floating framed in walnut timber. This artwork has d-rings and wire and is ready to hang.

Oil on linen
