the lemonade stand
Part of my latest collection: “Adventures of The Little Yellow Jug”
This series began with a simple still life painting of a little yellow jug I'd just brought home from an antique shop. After discovering it was made by Diana Pottery in the 1950s, I couldn't help wondering where it had been and what life it had lived all these years.
Was it the favourite milk jug on the breaky table back in the 50’s? Did it hold freshly picked flowers from grannies garden before being relegated to a young teenager in the 90’s to help keep their stationary?
I’ll never know, so I made it all up.
Each painting imagines another chapter in the life of this little yellow jug, celebrating the everyday moments, homes and memories it might have been part of over the past seventy years.
The Lemonade Stand is my nod to memories of warm summer days in the 1980’s Aussie sun, doing your best to make some cash to go buy some lollies at the local store. Whatever the kids could gather from the house and kitchen to make-shift a cool drink to sell to passers by. A hand painted sign, a lunch box to hold your cash, dad’s fave chair from the backyard. The only thing missing is a sprinkler on the front lawn.
33cm x 33cm x 5.5cm - floating framed in walnut timber. This artwork has d-rings and wire and is ready to hang.
Oil on linen
